Born in Barking, England, and raised in Chilliwack, British Columbia, she brings classical technique to music ranging from bluegrass and folk to jazz, funk and progressive rock. Improvisation and collaboration are central to her playing, and she has explored amplified flute and guitar effects as ways to extend the instrument’s sound.\n\nHer recording and touring work includes Twisted Pine, the adventurous acoustic quartet whose music brings together bluegrass, Americana, jazz and funk. Phung contributes flute and vocals; the band’s recordings include Right Now (2020) and Love Your Mind (2024). Her other projects include Tullstars and the performance-art duo Hairbrain with Alan Mackie. Earlier work with The Bombadils is documented on Grassy Roads, Wandering Feet, where she is credited with flute, Irish whistle, harmonica and voice.\n\nPhung’s performance history reaches from orchestral stages to folk festivals and improvised-music settings. In her artist interview with The Flute View, she describes making her orchestral solo debut at age thirteen with the Orchestre symphonique de Québec, performing in a tribute to Alice Coltrane led by Nicole Mitchell in Chicago, and touring internationally, including appearances at Sweden’s Urkult and Australia’s Woodford Folk Festival.\n\nShe shares solo performances through her official YouTube and social channels, and her collaborations also include Edmonton singer-songwriter and fiddler Braden Gates.","resumeText":"Principal instrument: flute; additional documented credits include Irish whistle, harmonica and vocals.\nOrigin: raised in Chilliwack, British Columbia; based in Toronto.\nSelected projects: Twisted Pine; Tullstars; Hairbrain with Alan Mackie; earlier recordings with The Bombadils.\nSelected recording credits: Grassy Roads, Wandering Feet (The Bombadils, released 2015); Right Now (Twisted Pine, 2020); Love Your Mind (Twisted Pine, 2024).\nSelected performance history: orchestral solo debut with the Orchestre symphonique de Québec at age thirteen; Nicole Mitchell-led Alice Coltrane tribute in Chicago; Urkult and Woodford Folk Festival.\nInterview and performance: Get Up in the Cool, episode 268, recorded at IBMA in Raleigh and released October 13, 2021.","websiteUrl":"https://linktr.ee/anh.t.phung","instagramUrl":"https://www.instagram.com/anh.t.phung/","instruments":[{"id":"39049a1e-11f5-4540-a916-00f4db262744","name":"Flute","scope":"GLOBAL","createdAt":"2026-06-20T19:24:39.701Z","updatedAt":"2026-06-20T19:24:39.701Z"},{"id":"c0216292-729d-4dde-b9a1-a3f746d9960f","name":"Harmonica","scope":"GLOBAL","createdAt":"2026-06-20T19:24:39.680Z","updatedAt":"2026-06-20T19:24:39.680Z"},{"id":"764a6bdb-d0e4-4759-8751-f29cff624449","name":"Irish Whistle","scope":"LOCAL","createdAt":"2026-10-09T21:35:05.945Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-09T21:35:05.945Z"},{"id":"38512e2e-380b-4ab4-b443-79e9b16b8810","name":"Vocals","scope":"GLOBAL","createdAt":"2026-06-20T19:24:39.633Z","updatedAt":"2026-06-20T19:24:39.633Z"}],"createdAt":"2026-10-09T20:21:27.008Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-09T21:35:05.966Z","slug":"anh-phung","publicPath":"/artists/anh-phung","socialLinks":[{"id":"6bf5ced8-90f6-43ee-83e8-b58f85a245df","platform":"INSTAGRAM","url":"https://www.instagram.com/anh.t.phung/","sortOrder":0,"createdAt":"2026-10-09T21:35:05.825Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-09T21:35:05.954Z"},{"id":"7928a6a5-4b68-41d3-b43e-85fd5a6c6c8c","platform":"TIKTOK","url":"https://www.tiktok.com/@anh.t.phung","sortOrder":1,"createdAt":"2026-10-09T21:35:05.956Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-09T21:35:05.956Z"},{"id":"134939b7-329c-450e-8c75-b86a5844c59b","platform":"YOUTUBE","url":"https://www.youtube.com/anhphungmusic","sortOrder":2,"createdAt":"2026-10-09T21:35:05.959Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-09T21:35:05.959Z"},{"id":"89643e74-9ede-49d0-be9b-a89fdf96dcd2","platform":"YOUTUBE_MUSIC","url":"https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDelMyTmE-vs","sortOrder":3,"createdAt":"2026-10-09T21:35:05.961Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-09T21:35:05.961Z"},{"id":"b211ef0f-8209-485d-b96a-654c0ec4cfd9","platform":"LINKTREE","url":"https://linktr.ee/anh.t.phung","sortOrder":4,"createdAt":"2026-10-09T21:35:05.963Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-09T21:35:05.963Z"}],"contributors":[],"tags":[{"id":"242cb942-c8c0-4af7-adbc-26fdf936bb8c","name":"Classical","slug":"classical","category":"Genre"},{"id":"3f73fdd6-e35a-40b4-8dbd-6c8df55c5492","name":"Jazz","slug":"jazz","category":"Genre"},{"id":"436e9107-7650-401c-8839-33d1a3204f54","name":"Bluegrass","slug":"bluegrass","category":"Genre"},{"id":"dc2f0159-4aae-4b97-8f0b-2602e05276d2","name":"Rock","slug":"rock","category":"Genre"},{"id":"f381ff59-38da-41c9-9a96-5cd946a96971","name":"Folk","slug":"folk","category":"Genre"}],"primaryImageUrl":"https://yeginsider.com/media/2b357a07-b10f-4acf-afa4-bd6fe65bd6b3","primaryImageAssetId":"2b357a07-b10f-4acf-afa4-bd6fe65bd6b3","squareImageUrl":"https://yeginsider.com/media/2b357a07-b10f-4acf-afa4-bd6fe65bd6b3","squareImageAssetId":"2b357a07-b10f-4acf-afa4-bd6fe65bd6b3","bannerImageUrl":"https://yeginsider.com/media/e9c5c948-d751-4b86-803f-52f8de8b3a48","bannerImageAssetId":"e9c5c948-d751-4b86-803f-52f8de8b3a48","galleryImageAssetIds":[]}}
