Originally from Fort Saskatchewan, he began playing fiddle at age five and developed his musicianship through fiddle contests, camps and jamborees. His performances combine original songs, acoustic guitar and traditional fiddle tunes, with a warm voice and a dry sense of humour.\n\nGates writes about everyday people, work, loneliness and connection. His recordings include Much Rather Be Sleeping (2017), Pictures Of Us (2018) and Kitchen Days (2020). Released by Borealis Records, Kitchen Days draws on his experiences working as a dishwasher, turning restaurant life and the people around it into songs and character sketches. The album won Traditional Album of the Year at the 2022 Canadian Folk Music Awards.\n\nHis live work spans folk clubs, festivals and concert stages. Presenter testimonials document an opening performance for Blue Rodeo at the Banff Centre and appearances at Mission Folk Music Festival and Blueberry Bluegrass Festival. Alongside his songwriting, he continues the fiddle tradition as a performer and teacher. His collaborations include flutist Anh Phung, who appears on Kitchen Days and joins him for live performances.","resumeText":"Instruments: guitar, fiddle and vocals.\nOrigin: Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta; based in Edmonton.\nSelected recordings: Much Rather Be Sleeping (2017); Pictures Of Us (2018); Kitchen Days (2020, Borealis Records).\nAward: Traditional Album of the Year, 2022 Canadian Folk Music Awards, for Kitchen Days.\nSelected performance credits: Blue Rodeo opening set at the Banff Centre; Mission Folk Music Festival; Blueberry Bluegrass Festival.\nTeaching: guitar instructor at the Alberta Society of Fiddlers’ 2023 camp.\nCollaborations: recording and concert performances with Anh Phung.","websiteUrl":"https://www.bradengates.com/","instagramUrl":"https://www.instagram.com/thisisbradengates/","instruments":[{"id":"a459fb7e-495c-49cf-ab4c-d457f78f737b","name":"Fiddle","scope":"LOCAL","createdAt":"2026-10-09T21:35:05.718Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-09T21:35:05.718Z"},{"id":"a9fd91c9-82f3-4bfd-8e45-f6faf5f7e7f0","name":"Guitar","scope":"GLOBAL","createdAt":"2026-06-20T19:24:39.641Z","updatedAt":"2026-06-20T19:24:39.641Z"},{"id":"38512e2e-380b-4ab4-b443-79e9b16b8810","name":"Vocals","scope":"GLOBAL","createdAt":"2026-06-20T19:24:39.633Z","updatedAt":"2026-06-20T19:24:39.633Z"}],"createdAt":"2026-10-09T20:21:26.932Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-09T21:35:05.754Z","slug":"braden-gates","publicPath":"/artists/braden-gates","socialLinks":[{"id":"f05a38f6-2b29-4778-864a-8c22c328668b","platform":"INSTAGRAM","url":"https://www.instagram.com/thisisbradengates/","sortOrder":0,"createdAt":"2026-10-09T21:35:05.533Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-09T21:35:05.727Z"},{"id":"d8b90861-cfd0-48b4-88d9-213d33f10fb5","platform":"FACEBOOK","url":"https://www.facebook.com/bradengates","sortOrder":1,"createdAt":"2026-10-09T21:35:05.731Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-09T21:35:05.731Z"},{"id":"512f5670-e501-441c-ae14-8081b5d09867","platform":"SPOTIFY","url":"https://open.spotify.com/artist/0I8Yxuj7mRmqM8sp0tBbiY","sortOrder":2,"createdAt":"2026-10-09T21:35:05.735Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-09T21:35:05.735Z"},{"id":"7a1ccda7-f602-4ecd-bcc0-9f0b7a5255fc","platform":"BANDCAMP","url":"https://borealisrecords.bandcamp.com/album/kitchen-days","sortOrder":3,"createdAt":"2026-10-09T21:35:05.738Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-09T21:35:05.738Z"},{"id":"d0989053-93ef-4956-96f0-2a67f94b5a16","platform":"APPLE_MUSIC","url":"https://music.apple.com/us/artist/braden-gates/1431154527","sortOrder":4,"createdAt":"2026-10-09T21:35:05.743Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-09T21:35:05.743Z"},{"id":"71514deb-fa00-43a2-a02f-c80153d105db","platform":"OTHER","url":"https://www.stagehand.app/artists/1196","sortOrder":5,"createdAt":"2026-10-09T21:35:05.748Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-09T21:35:05.748Z"}],"contributors":[],"tags":[{"id":"49a0c846-a57c-4ba8-be34-b4d304d308a6","name":"Singer-Songwriter","slug":"singer-songwriter-genre","category":"Genre"},{"id":"756ba5f9-52e1-4cab-ab66-352b5dc454e5","name":"Roots","slug":"roots","category":"Genre"},{"id":"f381ff59-38da-41c9-9a96-5cd946a96971","name":"Folk","slug":"folk","category":"Genre"}],"primaryImageUrl":"https://yeginsider.com/media/98bb8da3-b758-4e76-b70e-8304a806f46b","primaryImageAssetId":"98bb8da3-b758-4e76-b70e-8304a806f46b","squareImageUrl":"https://yeginsider.com/media/98bb8da3-b758-4e76-b70e-8304a806f46b","squareImageAssetId":"98bb8da3-b758-4e76-b70e-8304a806f46b","bannerImageUrl":"https://yeginsider.com/media/98bb8da3-b758-4e76-b70e-8304a806f46b","bannerImageAssetId":"98bb8da3-b758-4e76-b70e-8304a806f46b","galleryImageAssetIds":[]}}
