Stage 23, The Bliss Stage at Holy Trinity Church, 10037 84 Ave.
It’s important to know that there are two very distinct parts to ParaNorma PI. The first is simply the character of ParaNorma (Hilary Fillier) herself. She’s a half human, half demon paranormal investigator with a New Jersey accent. ParaNorma is on the Bliss Stage for a very specific reason: to teach us newbies the ways of paranormal investigation. Since her half-demon heritage allows her to “walk the path between heaven and hell” she’s got plenty of insider tips written on her flip chart, all written in helpful acronyms.
ParaNorma is quite serious about her work, which is why every now and again she turns towards a box on the table. This is where her demon half resides, and while ParaNorma hastily assures that there’s no chance of escape, she does let you know what might happen if it does. Want to guess what happens next?
This is where we get to the other distinct part of ParaNorma PI. Without giving too much away, we can state that all hell does indeed break loose on stage, and the relatively straightlaced ParaNorma gives way to the salacious Lilith. If you’ve read anything about the show in advance you’ll note that the word “burlesque” is in there, and what you’ll be seeing is most definitely burlesque… in close quarters.
Have we given enough warning for those who might not be comfortable with displays of skin? Okay. We can now state that ParaNorma PI is funny, smart, and quite unique. I’d normally advise that those with notions of decorum in church might want to keep their distance from this one, but nah – live a little!
