How far would you go to protect someone you love? That question is the connective tissue for much of what happens in this show, from defending a guilty family member to creating a false miracle. That sounds pretty heavy, but for the most part, the question is explored to great comedic effect.
Young Jo, whose father is a megachurch pastor, is pregnant. Her mother, Mary, comes up with a plan to shield Jo from judgement: tell everyone that the baby is the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. What could go wrong?
Created by the same team who brought us Old Man Sallow Who Lives on Crypt Rock, and featuring some of its cast, this show was almost as enjoyable as its predecessor. Fantastic performances and cackle-inducing lines abound.
But despite the overall cheeky nature of the show, be warned that there is a surprisingly dark plot point related to sexual abuse, and I’m not certain whether it was additive to the production. It almost seemed to belong in a different story.
Overall, this is another great show from a group of talented young people, and I look forward to seeing what they do next year.
